Abstract: Effective optimization of propeller aerodynamics and aeroacoustics requires knowledge of the boundary layer behavior across the blade. The current effort uses oil flow visualization to qualitatively capture the boundary layer profiles for an off-the-shelf UAV propeller operating over a range of RPMs in hover mode and connect the extents of laminar and turbulent boundary layer attachment and separation to performance and acoustic metrics.
